• ENGL 429 - Topics in American Literature (depending on content)

Select 1 course from the following:

• ENGL 388 - History of Literary Criticism and Theory
• ENGL 440 - Principles of Modern Literary Theory

Additional Courses (9 Hours)

• Select 3 additional courses from ENGL 300 or above

Additional Requirements

• A minimum GPA of 3.50 in the Major
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30
• A Senior Thesis (rather than 490) is required. The senior thesis will produce a piece of original research.
• A public presentation of the Senior Thesis in one of the following venues:
  • English Department Colloquium Series
  • USC Discovery Day
  • Professional Conference approved by supervisor
  • Journal publication
• A written sponsorship agreement with a supervising faculty member to be placed on file in the Department of English Undergraduate Office

Students who successfully complete this track with an overall GPA of 3.30 or higher and a GPA of at least 3.50 in the major will be awarded their degree with “Distinction in English” upon graduation.
