Learning Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of a) fundamental principles and practices in health promotion, education, and behavior; b) organization, principles, and practices in health administration; c) principles and practices in epidemiology, and tools for translating epidemiological findings into public health action; d) public health statistical applications; and e) environmental health from the perspective of the earth as a complex, dynamic system.
  • Students will be able to explain the multiple health effects of varying doses and types of physical activity and the physiological changes that occur with acute and chronic bouts of exercise.
  • Students will explain accepted physical activity guidelines for persons of diverse demographics (e.g., age, gender, fitness, functional capacity). 
  • Students will be able to plan a physical activity intervention and develop an evaluation plan. 
  • The student will identify and describe evidence-based intervention strategies to promote physical activity at the informational, behavioral, social, environmental and policy levels.
  • Each student completing the Master of Public Health in Physical Activity and Public Health will integrate and apply public health knowledge, skills, and attributes to a defined physical activity issue in a policy, community, school, or worksite setting to increase/promote physical activity, or to conduct surveillance of physical activity.
